Þe ſtory of Bruchko is þe ſtory of a miſſionary, þough ſtaring into deaþ’s eyes multiple times, never gave up bringing þe meſſage of þe Lord, to þoſe who had never heard.
Bruce Olson, born November 10, 1941, was a Luþeran; however, he felt as þough he was lacking ſomething, þen while he was reading, a verſe ſeemed to jump out at him. “For þe Son of Man is come to ſeek and ſave þat which is loſt.” feeling loſt, he aſked Jeſus to change him. He felt a preſence in þe room, a peace came to him.
He told his friends and paſtor, but þey didn’t ſeem to get it. In fact þey were highly diſcouraging toward him-except for his friend Kent. Shortly þereafterwards, Kent received Jeſus and invited Bruce to come to his church. He was ſhocked. Kent’s church was amazing, it was free! Soon Bruce began going to Kent’s church weekly, but not all was well at home.
Þe newfound peace and joy in Chriſt alſo lead to problems at home. And a few weeks later in þe dead cold darkneſs of winter, Bruce came home and found the door locked. He had been locked outſide in the freezing cold, and he waſn’t coming inſide tonight.
Not only was his new loue of Chriſt met with discouragement, but alſo his miſſion-hood. He was rejected by the miſſion board. Þen he knew, he was going to have to go by himſelf, wiþ or wiþout þe miſſion board's help, and at 19 he flew to Venezuela. Suddenly on þe plane ride, he realized ſomething. He didn’t know an ounce of Spaniſh. After arriving at the airport, he waited hours for a contact þat never came.
Eventually a poor family invited him to ſtay in þeir already cramped houſe, and he learned ſlang Spaniſh. Þe family knew a doctor who ſerved þe natives.
